Often called “foo dogs” in the west, Chinese guardian lions are most notably gendered by the tokens they hold. The male, symbolizing yang (pictured above), holds an embroidered ball, representing a building or other space under his protection.
So what happens when the token is a kendama? Does that mean the "foo dogs" protect the space in which we slay? Hmmm....
